34 Things

If you feel like there's not nearly enough posting going on at this blog (no doubt you're checking this site several times a day because you're so interested in our lives :), be sure to check out our activity over at 43 Things: here and here. Combined, Jennie and I have 34 things we're working towards. My favorite one is be more flexible and Jennie's entry, "I want to be able to fold myself in half."

Our space on Flickr might see some activity if I ever get around to uploading some more photos from my hard drive. You can always leave a comment or two there to let us know you're checking on us. Hint hint.

Lastly, if you're an RSS/Atom junky, you can subscribe to our stuff here, here, here, and here.

Remodeling Our Home

See the progress we're making on our remodel project. Tim & I are very excited about going from a studio apartment to a home with rooms, closets, bathrooms, and kitchen. It's funny how once you've gone without, it doesn't take much - like an oven or a closet - to make your day. May we always live a simple life.

Dad

My dad has lung cancer.

I've been a bad son; I haven't gone to see him since before I found out. I don't know why exactly. I was trying to figure it out tonight. I think it's because Dad has always been a super strong, indestructible man in my mind. He's been through all kinds of torturous pain -- including a tree falling on and breaking his leg, a drill passing through his flesh, and more. My Dad is impurveous to pain and illness.

Selfishly, I don't want to see him any other way. I don't want to know the truth -- that he's just as human as I am. Or perhaps it's because seeing him as vulnerable might mean I'm vulnerable too.

Forgive me Dad; I'm coming to see you this Sunday.

Made-Up Words

Jennie occasionally makes up words to suit her needs. She's actually pretty good at it.

For instance, just the other day Jennie and I were getting ready to go somewhere, and I put on a shirt that wasn't exactly -- how should I say it -- pressed. In fact, it was quite wrinkled. It was exhibiting a phenomenon that really doesn't quite fit into the "wrinkled" category. It's collar and edges were, well, wavy. Jennie called it "flumped up."

Exactly. My shirt was flumped up. Perfect, we now have a name for the wavy shirt syndrome. Now how do we go about adding that to Webster's?

Later... "Diangonal" is the word for today. I suppose it's a cross between diagonal and angle.

Don't Just Say It

1 John 3:18 NLT —

Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions.

Ephesians 4:2 NLT

Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love.

Friends and Cards

This evening we had a wonderful time playing cards and talking with some friends.

We set out to play Pitch, as taught to Jennie and me by my mother, but we couldn't remember all the rules and point distribution, so to the Web we went. It turns out there are no less than ten variations of the game of Pitch. Finding a version like the one we (kinda) remembered was a chore, but we finally found this version: Oklahoma Ten Point Pitch. Sweet; it's a version for Oklahomans. And it's only slightly different from the one Mom taught us (I think).

43 Things

This site is simple yet useful. It's basically a To Do list without so much Due. I mean it's more of a longterm kind of list. For examples, see our lists on the left side of this page.

Testing Flickr

I'm just testing my new flickr.com account. If this works, it will be pretty darn cool. Upload photos to their site and post them directly to your blog.

I'm not sure how much disk space you get with their free account. Will have to check...

Update: You get 10 MB of upload bandwidth. Hmm. I could chew that up with five photos. You can have an unlimited number of photos in your space, but only the last 100 show up. The pro account option costs around forty bucks per year. That's pretty reasonable I guess.

Update to the update: Flickr provides an upload tool that resizes your images before uploading them. Three photo uploads only used 1% of my bandwidth for this month. This will probably be plenty for my needs.

Thank You

God, I don't tell you thank you enough. I thank you for Your presence. Thank you for an intelligent, encouraging, and interesting husband. Thank you for friends and family. Thank you for Kim - an amazing prayer partner. Thank you for our home and the remodel. Thank you for hearing my prayers. Thank you for giving Tim & I a place to serve - a place in your body. Thank you for the bridge. Thank you for seasons of refreshing. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for the opportunity to share your love with those close to me. And last - but certainly not least - thank you for your son, Jesus. It's in His name I pray. Amen.

Ephesians Greeting

How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He's the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth's foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love. Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!) He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.
Don't know about you, but that just makes my day.
