A Reason to Save Stuff

I like to throw stuff away, whereas my wife is quite the opposite (though this has changed some as our marriage has progressed). Lately I've been going back through old photos to see if I could salvage anything. Turns out there are several photos I either missed completely or didn't see the beauty at the time of capturing. Here is an example of a photo I apparently didn't think was very good at the time, but after a bit of touching up, it looks pretty neat. So the moral of the story is don't get delete-happy.

A Night Without Power

We got home tonight (er... last night) to realize that our power was out. Do you know how many daily activities require power? We kept saying stuff to each other like "turn up the thermostat" or "let's watch TV". It's crazy what little you can do without power. Good thing Jennie is candle queen -- we had plenty of light. So we sat down and played a game of chess. And I got whooped.

On an unrelated note, I've been experimenting with high-speed ISO settings on my camera (which is how I captured the photo here). There's a lot of resulting noise, but the shots are interesting nonetheless.

Morgan Thanksgiving

Yet more turkey today! We made the trip out to Colcord to see my family and had a wonderful time. I took tons of pictures (as usual), so take a look.

The atmosphere was a bit less cheerful than years past (at least as I rememeber them), most likely due to Dad's current condition. It was good to see him smile, though I'm sure being around all those people wore on him.

We had our first Thanksgiving feast today. This time I took tons of pictures, and they're all online.

Saturday we'll hit the Morgan farm to hang out with my family for a day. Expect to see just as many photos from that event, too!

I found this awhile back in one of Mom's photo albums and scanned it. I think it's a wonderful shot of my awesome sister Tracey.

I also uploaded several other old photos, including a couple of myself, so definitely take a look!

Value of Sparrows

This came through my inbox as my daily verse this morning:

Don't be afraid; you are more valuable to [God] than a whole flock of sparrows. --Matthew 10:31 NLT

That makes me feel better. Because I place a lot of value on sparrows.

Busy Weekend

This past weekend Jennie and I got to take portrait photos of two different families. Both sessions added greatly to my experience, and while I wouldn't dare call myself a pro, I (and both families) were impressed with some of the results.

I've taken portraits before and had marginal success, but this weekend was a bit more challenging (multiple people and small children), and it was the first time I felt like there was true technique involved instead of pure luck.

My approach still relies on taking hundreds of shots and using several different positions, and there's quite a bit of luck-factor involved, but I'm starting to feel like I can predict which angles/positions/poses/etc. will turn out the best. I still need tons of practice though. Need cheap family portraits done this fall? :-)
